To write well, you must practice writing.
Practice by itself isn't enough, however. To improve your writing, practice
your technique. Precise writing is strong writing. Flabby writing is weak
writing.

Never bore your readers. A good writer can make a common subject
interesting and new. An inexperienced writer may repeat the same words and
ideas a thousand other writers have already written.
Find new ways to express yourself. Remove any phrase you've seen or heard
more than twice. Avoid clichés — they're lazy. Create, don't
repeat.

In the active voice, the subject of a sentence performs an action directly.
The opposite is the passive voice, in which the subject of the sentence has an
action performed upon it. Though the passive voice is appropriate at times, it
often robs power and clarity from sentences.
When possible, rewrite your sentences to make them active and direct.
